St. Francis of Assisi, born in Umbria in 1181, was the founder of the Franciscan Order. He died on October 4, 1226 at the age of 45. Francis is considered the founder of all Franciscan Orders and the patron saint of ecologists and merchants.

PRAYERS TO ST. FRANCIS FOR OUR PETS:

Good St. Francis, you loved all of God's creatures.
To you they were your brothers and sisters.
Help us to follow your example
of treating every living thing with kindness.
St. Francis, Patron Saint of animals,
watch over my pet
and keep my companion safe and healthy.
Amen.

PRAYER FOR OUR ANIMAL FRIENDS

(To make a Novena for a sick pet, say this prayer for 9 consecutive days)

Heavenly Father, our human ties with our friends of other species is wonderful and special gift from You. We now ask You to grant our special animal companions your Fatherly care and healing power to take away any suffering they have. Give us, their human friends, new understanding of our responsibilities to these creatures of Yours. They have trust in us as we have in You; our souls and theirs are on this earth together to give one another friendship, affection, and caring. Take our heartfelt prayers and fill Your ill or suffering animals with healing Light and strength to overcome whatever weakness of body they have.

(Here mention the names of the animals needing prayer).

Your goodness is turned upon every living thing and Your grace flows to all Your creatures. From our souls to theirs goodness flows, touching each of us with the reflection of Your love. Grant to our special animal companions long and healthy lives. Give them good relationships with us, and if You see fit to take them from us, help us to understand that they are not gone from us, but only drawing closer to You. Grant our prayer through the intercession of good St. Francis of Assisi, who honored You through all Your creatures.

Give him the power to watch over our animal friends until they are safely with You in eternity, where we someday hope to join them in giving You honor forever.

Amen.

What is she taking for the ear infection and the hyperthyroid? Did you know there is a ear cream for the hyperthyroid condition? It's easier on the stomach.

I will also keep Cuddles in my prayers. Let me know how she does. <3

Please pray for my sick cat named Skoochie. He is 17 years old, and diabetic. He got his annual shots 2 1/2 weeks ago, and went into shock, then his sugar level plumeted. He almost died, but he did make it through. He is still not back to feeling well and I pray for him every night. I know his diabetes can not be healed, but i pray that he will heal from the horrible ordeal he went through.
6th-Aug-2011 12:30 am (UTC) - Re: my sick cat
I am very sorry for your horrible experience with Skoochie. Did the vet tell you why the shots would do that to him? Did they take responsibility for it or have you had to pay for everything yourself? I will definitely pray for Skoochie. How was he doing before the shots?

If you will write an LJ mail message to me, I would like to ask you about him. But I will definitely pray for him. I know these people here have a LOT of helpful information concerning feline diabetes:

http://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/ Although as with many forums, the organisation is somewhat rigid, and the users are experienced and quite opinionated, but they mean well and are helpful.

8th-Aug-2011 11:16 am (UTC) - Re: kitty
I hope you have taken your kitty to the vet as it sounds like medical attention is also needed. If money is an issue, tell the vet you will make monthly payments. I will pray for your kitty, and you should also ask St Anthony to help you. He is very good with animals. And St Martin de Porres is also a good saint for little creatures. But please do start with the veterinarian. God bless you.

I hope this doesn't sound strange but i am asking for a prayer of healing for my kitten Moo. Last night he became sick and is hospitalized and struggling to breathe because of pneumonia. I know our lord loves all he created - and I saved this beautifull kitten from a shelter and would like him to have a nice life with me, Please join me in prayer for Moo's comfort and healing. I beg you. Please pray for my peace - my name is heather
19th-Aug-2011 01:34 pm (UTC) - Re: please help moo
I will certainly be praying for Moo, and it doesn't sound strange at all to ask for prayers. Didn't Jesus say where two or more are gathered together in my name, there I am also. We can pray for the kitten together. I have seen a cat so sick with pneumonia that even the vet questioned whether he would live, but he did and grew healthy and long-lived. So have faith and hopefully your little one can come home where YOU can take care of him like the vet instructs, and being home will be much more comfortable and positive for him. There are many procedures that people can do at home that a vet can teach them. Other people might not want to be bothered, but it really helps the animal to be kept at home in my opinion. Let me know pleae Heather, how Moo does.

My just recently 10 year golden retriever, Libby, was diagnosed with Lymphoma last Thanks Giving; she has been battling ever since. As of today she has developed a heart condition which will end her chemotherapy and we have until Christmas at the very latest. I pray the Lord will find someway to touch his loving hand upon Libby and give her many years to come.
28th-Oct-2011 08:40 pm (UTC) - Re: My Dog Libby
I'm so sorry to hear this. That's a long time to be on chemo isn't it? What kind of heart condition does she have now? What is the vet doing to treat it? There are some things they can do to help animal hearts.

I will keep Libby in my prayers. Goldens are beautiful dogs. All God's creatures are beautiful.

Please pray to St Francis for me. I lost both my ACDs in this year due to old age. My male was 16 yrs old and my female was 13 yrs old. I am not in the best of health myself and on a fixed income. I think I may be unable to care for a new dog or to make a long term commitment to one but I am so lonely without my fur kids. Pray to St. Francis that I may be able to find the financial means to give a loving home to an ACD that needs one and that I may be able to overcome my current health issues in order to include one in whatever remaining time I have left on earth. While my memories and the ghosts if my fur kids are here with me I still find I need some living comfort. I know St. Francis is the patron saints of animals and I'm hoping that by praying to him, he may intercede on my behalf to the Holy Trinity and send me another Fur Angel. J-M-J Bless you all.

Please pray for my older cat who will not come into the house anymore because when we took in another stray we did not realize that she was about to become a mother. Once the 3 babies come along the mother became very protective and shooed away the older cat. That was OK when the weather was warmer but now she needs to come back inside. PS The older cat {female named Blackie has never been a sociable cat exept with me. I think she was abused. Help... She needs courage and trust. I really really really miss her and my heart goes out to her. Thank you for advise and prayer...
28th-Nov-2011 10:20 pm (UTC) - Re: scared cat
Are the kittens still around? It is often a trial to get two adult cats of any kind accustomed to each other, and the best way I have found is to confine one in a bedroom with food and water and a pan and only let it out when you can be there to supervise the two cats together until they get aquainted and accept each other. Sometimes it takes awhile. In rare instances, it never works, but most of the time and especially with two females, I would think it would eventually sort itself out. Be careful with kittens, though. I will keep all your kitties in my prayers. :) Let me know what happens, and you might also ask a vet for advice.

God bless,
Claudia

Dear Claudia,
I'm so sorry for the loss of your da plus the medical problem with your dog. You're having a really rough time. I will keep you in my prayers. Maybe if it has been that long since Tiffany's diagnosis, another veterinary opinion might help? What does your vet think?

Please pray for my kitten, Dora, as she has been diagnosed with FIP. She is only six months old. Hoping for a miracle from Our Lord. Many thanks. Liz
29th-Dec-2011 06:54 am (UTC)
Liz, I'm so sorry to hear this. What is her condition now? Is she actually ill? I ask this because I have read this extract from Cornell:

Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is a viral disease of cats caused by certain strains of a virus called the feline coronavirus. Most strains of feline coronavirus are avirulent, which means that they do not cause disease, and are referred to as feline enteric coronavirus. Cats infected with a feline coronavirus generally do not show any symptoms during the initial viral infection, and an immune response occurs with the development of antiviral antibodies. In a small percent of infected cats (5 to 10 percent), either by a mutation of the virus or by an aberration of the immune response, the infection progresses into clinical FIP. The virus is then referred to as feline infectious peritonitis virus (FIPV)

http://www.vet.cornell.edu/fhc/brochures/fip.html

So it sounds like sometimes the virus may be in the cat but not causing the disease? Here is also a link to someone who practices homeopathic vet medicine :

http://hpathy.com/veterinary-homeopathy/feline-infectious-peritonitis-fip-case-management-and-suggested-new-rubrics-developed-from-500-cases/

I do not know if it is reliable, but it can't hurt to read it.

I will be praying for little Dora. Please let me know how things go.

Please pray for my cat Icarus (ick-uh-riss) he has been missing for over a week now and I can't bear the thought of losing his
20th-Jan-2012 07:21 pm (UTC)
I'm sorry Icarus is missing. Please let me give you some suggestions. Sometimes cats go off when they are either in heat or interested in females who are, and they will stay away from home for awhile. Or sometimes they get locked in neighbours' garages and sometimes accidentally taken off in cars where they have fallen asleep. Sometimes, if they are out and get hurt, a good samaritan might take them to a vet or animal shelter. If they are ill and run out, they may go to the nearest place to hide because cats seek solitude when they are sick sometimes. My suggestions are that you print up flyers with his photo if possible and tape them all over the place. Call all the vets and shelters in your area and let them know about Icarus. Keep checking back. Go around to all your neighbours and ask them if they have seen your cat.

If you just moved somewhere, it is possible your cat might try to go back to where he used to live. They can do this even though they do not actually know the way. I have seen it happen.

You might also place a lost ad in your local papers and post lost cards on store and gasoline station bulletin boards.

I will keep Icarus in my prayers. Don't give up hope. I just recently read of a cat who was stolen but finally made his way home about 5 years later.

Please pray for my kitten Zack. He was diagnosed wih FIP today which is almost always fatal. The veterinarian Dr. Curtis extracted fluid from his lungs to alleviate his pain and sent us home with antibiotics and a steroid. I was told the only thing I can do is keep him comfortable and pray. I have been praying to Saint Francis all day. My heart is broken. Zack is the sweetest <3
